Goodwood 2:55

I can’t help ending up at Common Touch when looking at this race. He has been poor this year but is back down to a mark he has won of before. He has in the past on almost every occasion he has won , come back from poor runs to perform, which is what would be needed today. He also has blinkers re-fitted today and if they can spark a small revival maybe he can get involved at a huge price. 66/1 makes the rick worth taking.

1 Point EW 66/1 365/Victor/Coral

York 3:50

Repeater looks too easily overlooked here after one poor run last time out.  He was a real eye-catcher this year in the Northumberland plate when a fast finishing 3rd, and as he is a certainty to stay this trip his Each Value at huge odds is very tempting. He is possibly being readied for another tilt at the Doncaster Cup in September but at 66/1 I’m willing to take that risk.

1 Point EW 66/1 5 Places Sky BET

Goodwood 4:40

Songcraft looks the value here at 11/1 with Coral. He was poor enough after a break last time out but that should have got him back to fitness after a very good Meydan this year. He is the highest rated in this race and it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if he were to get back to form here.

1 Point win 11/1 Coral

York 5:00

Bosatto is proven off this mark in this type of race and despite looking the second choice of the stable, that wouldn’t necessarily be much of a negative. His 4th in a similar but stronger race at Goodwood would put him rights in the firing line here with a decent 3lbs claimer on today. 28/1 is too big to ignore.

I’ve made up my mind here that Pearl Secret is completely the wrong price here and in my view is actually 3rd favourite in this field. There isn’t a lot between him and Hot Steak and unless Shea Shea can produce the goods tomorrow it is going to be difficult to knock him out of the places. With all that said Sole Power doesn’t even need to be at his best to win this comfortably. It is difficult to know what bet to make here, but ill go with a decent EW Bet as I figure him as a 9/1 shot really and 50% margins can’t be refused any time. Ill also go for a 1 point spend on a small Tote Trifecta on Betfair with the above 4 Horses Mentioned.

2 Points EW 18/1 Pearl Secret Stan James ¼ the odds 123

1 Point Tote Trifecta  Betfair Pearl Secret, Sole Power, Hot Steak, Shea Shea

1:55 York

Lahaag has been quietly improving this year while steadily dropping in handicap mark and arrives here on an over-generous looking mark of 92. He won a handicap last year over this c&d off 5 lbs higher and in general has a very decent record at York. 16/1 looks generous and worth of a decent EW Bet

2 Points EW 16/1 Generally

York 3:05

Santefisio is one I’ve tried before a few times without much success but he is a decent horse if everything goes in his favour and has had a few performances (mainly at Ascot to be fair) which would give him a tiny squeak here. 1 Mile of Good-Firm should be fine for him and at 66/1 he is well above the price id be prepared to take a gamble on and is worthy of a small bet just in case.

1:55 York.

I’m going to give York Glory another chance here to get back to form here of a decent looking mark of 103. He ran better than his finishing result in the Stewards Cup and if things go his way he might just look a bit of value at 16/1. I’m also going with Monsieur Joe, as his form over the course and distance behind Take Cover, reads well given his current mark and at 30 on Betfair he is worth a small bet in case of a return to form here.

1 Point win York Glory 16/1 Generally

1 Point win Monsieur Joe 30 Betfair

4:20 York

A former cliff horse of mine might just have a small squeak in this tomorrow. He needs the 2 miles as far as I can see and generally runs better at York than anywhere else. Saptapadi has a few decent runs this year and if things can go his way here he stands about as good a chance as he’s had in a while to add to his single win. 20/1 is tempting.

1 Point win 20/1 Generally

3:30 Ripon

Ridiculously tight race where the bookies could have priced everything the same and be done with it. I wanted to go with one on each side and without coming up with anything earth shattering I’ve gone with a couple of my old favourites that may well be hitting a nice mark. Confessional can be competitive of this mark and has a few very good runs lately that read well compared to a few at the top of this market. I’ve also gone with my initial feeling that Hitchens is overpriced and of a very good mark. His 5th in the Scottish Stewards Cup lately read well of this mark and the additional 7lbs off today with the claimer might just bring him into the firing line of this low mark.

1 Point EW 22/1 Coral 5 Places Confessional

1 Point EW 28/1 Coral 5 Places Hitchens

2:50 Ripon

I’m as certain as I could be that Doc Hay will be winning within a very short time and although id have loved a bigger price I’d still be happy with the 14/1 on offer. He has been dropped a bit too far in mark for a few slow starts etc. and with blinkers on today I wouldn’t be surprised to see a return to form.

1 Point win 14/1 Generally

3:15 Newbury

Pastoral Player has a good course record, some very decent runs lately and Good/Soft over 7 Furlongs here in this smaller field may well be ideal. 8/1 looks very fair and id be annoyed if I wasn’t on after expecting him to go close a few times in big handicaps. He could pick this lot up and carry them if remotely near his best form.

1 Point win 8/1 Generally

Goodwood 3:50

Very tough race with not a lot standing out for me as great value, but I keep looking at York Glory at 33/1 and in case of regrets I’m going to have a go on him today. He appeared a sprinter going places last year at Ascot and had a few good runs after that but has been poor this year so far. Last time out he was hampered and wasn’t pushed after that but I’m hopeful that this race may have been his plan and if he fulfils the potential he showed last year he could get involved.

I’m also going with min bet on a couple of huge outsiders here in Ballesteros and Zero Money, both are on decent mark and are very inconsistent but on their day could well produce the good here.

Goodwood 3:05

Tough looking race and as im only looking at the race now my initial impression was Red Avenger could run well but pricewise has selected him and the value may be gone at the current 14/1. Instead I’m going to go with a couple of big outsiders with a bit of class that might just be overpriced here. Pastoral Player never got involved at all last week but even though this is 1 mile and his record isn’t great at that trip he has looked a few times this year like a decent performance is imminent. 25/1 is worth taking a small risk. In addition Boomshackerlacker has some very decent form and doesn’t look a 50/1 shot to me here, he is worth a min bet at that price.

1 Point win Pastoral Player 25/1

½ Point EW Boomshackerlacker 50/1

3:40 Goodwood

Kingsgate Native has been having one of his most consistent years this year, apart from his last slightly disappointing run he is well up to winning this race at a decent looking 12/1. In addition Monsieur Joe might be the one to get involved here at a huge price as he has plenty of form this year that is closely matched with a few at the top of the market, and it would be amiss of me not to have a go at my type of price 50/1.

1 Point win Kingsgate Native 12/1

1 Point ew Monsieur Joe 50/1 Stan James

Goodwood 1:55

Wigmore Hall, is one I’ve selected a couple of times in the hope he is being readied for a go at a handicap, and if se tomorrow is as good a chance as hell get. He is off a career low mark and back to decent ground over 10 furlongs it should be about right for him. We are taking a leap of faith as he hasn’t done anything at all this year but he’s worth a min bet at 33/1 with 5 place just in case.

½ Point EW 33/1 Coral 5 Places

Goodwood 5:20

Stone of Folca is turning into a bit of a cliff horse for me but I’ll give him another shot at a huge price on his favoured good-firm ground. He is down to a low mark after a few poor runs this season but he’s worth another risk at 33/1

Galway 6:45

Marchese Marconi has some form in the book that gives him a great chance here at a decent looking price. He seems to be better on good ground and was a very good 2nd in the Irish Cesarewitch at the end of last year of this mark. He also beat Pique Sous on good ground in Wexford last year. He is very consistent and looks to have been improving with each run this year hopefully to a decent go at this race. He ran well in this race last year finishing 8th on softer ground which wouldn’t have suited. 16/1 looks value .

International Stakes Handicap Ascot

Don’t Call Me ticks almost every box for this race. He has really top notch Ascot Handicap Form and  has run a good race on almost every occasion, 2 wins a 2nd 3rd 4th and other good performances over this course and distance all in big handicaps. Every one of those was of a higher mark than his current mark and his one decent run this year was a decent 8th here in the Victoria Cup, when running on at the end. If that wasn’t enough there is the sudden booking of Jockey of the moment Oisin Murphy. All this adds up to 33/1 looking unreal value and worthy of a decent bet.

2 Points EW 33/1 Bet365 5 Places NRNB

King George Ascot 3:50

I think that the market has got too excited about the prospected of both Telescope and Taghrooda here. It’s not certain that either has really beaten anything yet. Eagle Top could be anything but basically an unknown and as such isn’t value at 5/1. The more I look at it the more I end up looking at Trading Leather as the value here. He is a very consistent animal and has looked as if 12 furlongs is his best trip. He was a good second in the Eclipse behind my selection for that race Mukhadram, who had got away somewhat early in the straight. He was 2nd in this last year but I wouldn’t be surprised if he has improved this year and the current 12/1 available looks about 4 points too big. He is a tempting large EW bet but that isn’t really my thing at these odds so I’ll go for a smaller win bet

1 Point win 16 Betfair Trading Leather

Sbybet Dash York 3:30

Ancient Cross is getting a bit long in the tooth at this stage but he has been steadily coming into form this year, and I wouldn’t be that surprised to see him improve for the step up to 6 here off a mark below his Silver Cup win from last year with a 7lbs claimer on board. 25/1 looks a bit of value.

1 Point EW 25/1 Paddy Power

York 2:20

Mezzotint is one I’ve been keeping an eye on with his falling mark and after a half decent run last time out I get the feeling that he may well be ready to run well today. He also has headgear back on and is back down to his last winning mark. 16/1 looks a bit of value.

1 Point win 16/1 Various
