The Liquidator probably came up against a superstar in Vautour and the fact that he tried to go with him for too long took its toll and he weakened in the end. I fancy this easier 2 miles on good ground will probably suit him better and he could well outrun his big looking price of 20/1 here. There may not be much between him and the 2nd and 3rd fav here.

1 Point EW 20/1 Boyles/Paddy

4:55

The Game Changer struck me straight away as the value here. He has a decent c&d win at the end of last year that has worked out well, and looked to be running well last time at Aintree until hampered 2 out. His mark of 130 may have some leeway and I expected him to be shorted here.

1 Point EW 16/1 Bet365/Coral

5:30

Somersby should be a fairly solid favourite here on form and I think he is being underestimated here again as he was at Cheltenham. Module was catching him at the end of the Champion but this is less of a staying race and really he should have too much class. He jumped and ran about as good as he ever did in that race and a repeat would be good enough to win here.

2 Points win 5/1 Various.

Sandown bet365 Gold Cup 3:50

I’ve only had eyes for Burton Port for this since I saw he was entered. Although the ground is getting softer it’s still very decent jumping ground and with only 10:09 and AP back on today he really does stand out a mile here. I was tempted by the 16/1 available earlier in the week but I’m happy to go with 10/1 on the day. He showed a marked return to form in his second last run on very heavy ground and didn’t last long at Aintree. I also have a sneaking feeling that Opening Batsman might just return to a bit of form today also of a half decent mark at a huge price. That’s a gut feeling selection with not a lot of reasoning.

2 Points win 10/1 Various Burton  Port

1 Point EW 33/1 Bet365 5 places Opening Batsman

Ripon 3:30

Saptapadi has been a bit of a disaster for me as I’ve selected him a few times and he always seems to meet trouble win running which is difficult in these staying races. He is just about a big enough price get involved today of what is certainly a decent mark and hopefully the gaps will come today.

1 Point win 18/1 BetVictor/Ladbrokes

Haydock 3:25

Chosen Character in down to a mark he can perform of on a course he has 2 wins on and hopefully today has been his objective as he has had to poor runs this year but has looked in need of the runs. 25/1 is worth the risk.

1 Point win 25/1 Various

Haydock 2:20

Balty Boys showed up well from a very poor draw in the Lincoln and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get involved today at a huge price. He probably needs to drop another few pounds but he is worth the risk at a big looking 33/1 today

Stone of Folca seems an obvious selection given his excellent record at the course and when fresh. He is drawn high which is an advantage but probably would prefer better ground but still nothing stands out at all in this field and 9/1 with bet365 is Value

I’m going with the outsider of the field here in Becauseicouldntsee. He ran well last time out here over a longer trip on very soft ground and I’m hopeful his shorter trip on better ground might give him a better chance here. He is also blinkered for the first time and looks overpriced at 33/1 of this mark. He has a few runs this year that would put him in with a shout of placing at least

1 Point EW 33/1 Becauseicouldntsee  Generally

5:00 Irish Grand National

I’ve already gone with 2pts EW Ante-Post on Away We Go at 25/1 5 places and he is now available at 40/1 in a few places.

Rogue Angels run at Cheltenham on decent ground looks good considering it wasn’t in a handicap off level weights and compares well with Shutthefrontdoors run in the same race considering he is 12lbs better at the weights today. He was disappointing since but if he can reproduce his run at Cheltenham over this shorter trip which might just suit he should be in the firing line with only 9:09 on his back here with the 5lbs claimer on. 25/1 looks a decent price..  I’m also going with a min bet on the outsider of the field who on the face of it has very little chance. Oscars Well ran well enough at Cheltenham over hurdles until he made a mistake 2 out and although this is much further than he has tried before he might have a tiny (and I mean tiny) chance if he takes to this trip in the ground. He has been given a slight chance by the handicapper with only 11:00 on his back and 100/1 has some margin in it. I’ll have another min bet on Rich Revival who looks a chaser going places when completing a hat trick last year until he pulled up in this race. He ran well last time out in a hurdle and gets in here on a workable mark at a big price. He is still an unexposed horse and could well be up to this, presuming this was his target all year.

½ Point EW 100/1 Oscars Well 5 places StanJames

Frontier Spirit was a very good 4th yesterday at 33/1 to give us a small profit no the day.

3:55 Plumpton

This is a very nice race for a Sunday and one of my old favourites arrives here in good form. Local Hero’s record in these good ground fast 2m mile end of season races is very good. He seems to always be competitive, but when you see him placing this year in a couple of similar races on soft ground in Jan/Feb you’d have to think he is at the top of his game as he will be much better on the good ground here. He also ran an eye-catching race at Cheltenham when he travelled really well and just didn’t stay the extra 4 furlongs up the hill, but that in my mind showed his current form. There are a couple of unexposed ones in this but the selection is proven of higher marks than this in these race and 10.5  with the couple of non-runners is great value.

2 Points win 10.5 Betfair Local Hero

I’m going to have a small saver on another favorite of mine solely for the simple reason that if the party is going to get started I’m going to be there. Dan Breen is down to a workable mark and although he has most of his form on soft ground he has run well on good before and is simply too big a price. Paddy Power have a special of money back if 2nd or 3rd and with 20/1 on that offer it can’t be missed.

3:15 Haydock

Frontier Spirit sticks out a little bit for me here as a possible improver on good ground and off a very low mark with a decent 7lbs claimer on. He looks to be the stable second choice but his price reflects that. This time last year he put in a couple of decent performance’s on better ground off 18lbs higher and although he has been very poor on the soft ground for the most part this year, I get the feeling he will be better today for a big pot. At 33/1 he is worth a small risk to come back to form.

1 Point EW 33/1 Generally

2:40 Haydock

I struggled to pick on in this race but I’m going to go back with my initial feeling that Ultimate is well handicapped and should he come back to form here on decent ground after a couple of poor runs on soft he may well be hard to knock out of the places at a decent price. Hopefully he was been prepared with today in mind and I’ll have small bet at 20/1 which looks decent value

1 Point EW 20/1 Generally

Haydock 2:05

I’m not sure why I think that Niceonefrankie might come back to form here, but I’m having difficulty fancying anything else at the weights and he sticks out a bit for me here with only 10:01 on his back. Obviously the stable is well capable of producing him for this big pot, and I’d rather take a risk on him at a decent price than any of the others at shorter prices. He is getting back down to the mark of a very good success at Ascot earlier this year albeit over a much shorter trip and he has shown once or twice since that of a reduced mark he may well get competitive again. Last weeks run will have to be forgotten about as it was poor.

1 Point win 14/1 Generally

I had a lot of difficulty finding anything I liked here as a lot of the main fancies are in my view too high in the weights. That is until I came across Away We Go, he was 2nd last year and followed that up with a very good 3rd in the Bet365 Gold Cup. That was the form of his life and although he hasn’t run at all this year yet, I don’t think that is any issue as I’m 100% sure that he will only be interested in this race. He is only up 5lbs which is do-able and I think he will be helped by the better ground than last year. I just can’t see him being a 25/1 shot looking at the other more fancied horses and he looks the best value in the field at the moment. I’m also pretty sure he will go off much shorter even if Willie Mullins has never won this.

2 Points EW 25/1 Boyles NRNB 5 places.

Cheltenham 3:50

Golden Chieftain travelled well last time out at Aintree and I fancy it was just a lack of fitness thatmade him weaken at the end of the race. He is back here quickly after than run and really looks to be back on the upgrade. If he can travel as well here, he doesn’t have nearly as strong opposition as that race and 9/1 looks value especially given his further 3lbs drop in mark.

Cheltenham 3:50

I’ve been waiting for Kumbeshwar to run a decent race all season and although I had him firmly in mind for the Grand Annual at the festival he obviously didn’t make it there primarily because of a bad run on heavy ground at Sandown before it. His Haldon gold cup run would obviously be enough here and he has shown up well a few times since at Cheltenham not quite staying in heavy ground.  I think this 2m5f on good ground may well suit him, and although the favorite will be hard to beat if he gets his jumping right, 10/1 with paddy power looks value. He is on a career low mark and should be really well in if back to any kind of form.I just don’t think he would be out again for this season if he wasn’t right and the stable is back in good form.

2 Points win 10/1 Paddy Power

Cheltenham 3:15

Broadway Buffalo ran a very good race at the festival albeit over a longer trip and I think he has been given a chance here by the handicapper. In addition he has a 7lbs claimer on which can only help and to my eye he should be in the top 3 in the betting here. He is still more or less unexposed and could well be still improving. 12/1 looks about 4 points too big and worth a bet.

Close to a big payday today with Norville running a great race to be second, having looked like to winner a lot of the way. I think the value will be gone on him for a while now but im happy enough with following him for the 3 races and coming out with a Healthy profit. The 14 point more than makes up for a poor Saturday.
