14:55 Thirsk, Barney McGrew

Barney McGrew started to get back into form a bit towards the end of last year. He has been spared Mayden this year as it looks as tough he left his season there last year. Although he can be in need of his first run, his current mark of 85 and a decent draw here tomorrow can’t be ignored. He will need to be backed for a few races as he looks to be well capable of running up a sequence early this year.

15:55 Newmarket, Montaff

Montaff looks seriously overpriced for this race tomorrow. He looks to have come back to form after being in the doldrums for a few runs after heading to Dubai. His mark of 95 is more or less the lowest he has been. His last run against Gulf Of Napels does look very good when taking into account he didn’t get the best of runs and has dropped another 2 lbs for that defeat. He will certainly stay here as he gets further but has plenty of good runs on firmer ground of a much higher mark. I think the 16/1 is a mistake and he looks in my mind about evens at best to place.

Tepmokea last years winner of this race looks to be in with a great chance again here, he is only 3lbs higher after a few poor enough runs since, but has an excellent record fresh. This race has to be his main target for the season and the fact that he makes his seasonal debut here again just emphasises that fact. The Current 18 available on Betfair looks a good few points too big and well worth a bet.

15:00 York, Duke Of York totepool Stakes

Society Rock is simply the wrong price here; he has the best form in the race particularly on soft ground and has performed on reappearance before. Although there are some improving types in here, he is still only 5 and possibly has as much improvement in him as the likes of Mayson & Hoof It. He looks to have a much better than 10/1 chance here and that means the 11.0 available on Betfair has to be taken.

Its getting expensive to follow Waffle , but yet again last time he was badly hampered in the last furlong when winding up nicely at Newmarket. He is down to a mark of 100 which he well capable of running to and the Good-Soft ground if perfect for him. He looks a nice price this morning at 18.5 on Betfair and if for once he can get a clear run he has the class to take advantage.
