I’m a great believer in pure form in Group Sprints and on that basis Ahtoug stands out a mile here at the prices in this race. He is the highest rated and apart from his last run his form this year is pretty much out of the top drawer albeit over 5 Furlongs. He does give the impression that 6 will suit and has some form in the past over that trip but at 12/1 he certainly looks the value.

3:30 Market Rasen

These summer National Hunt races are a bit of a minefield but looking at this race the clear value looks to be Dursey Sound. He hasn’t been picked by McCoy but up to his poor run at Cheltenham he has some very decent form that might make the 5lbs he has been given back for that run look a tad generous. He has been given a break since and in his short career has run well after a break before. 20/1 just looks a bit of value.

Kostar is a horse that nearly pulled off a shock for me a while ago at a huge price when 2nd to a very decent animal over hurdles earlier this year. 2 of his runs since have been pretty decent and he has a claimer back on today of bottom weight. He actually has a decent record with a claimer on and I’m hoping that it signifies that he may be ready to run his race today. 40/1 looks a nice bit of value and worth a small shot, even if it seems he may need a bit further and the ground a bit softer.

Short write-ups as I’m on hols and using phone.

July Cup

Hot Streak looks the only viable horse that could beat Slade Power here . He is right at the top over 5f and has form on softer ground. 9\1 looks the best value of the alternatives to the very solid Slade Power.

1 point win Hot Streak 9\1 Ladbrokes.

York 2:55

Very difficult race but the value here appears to lie with Sennockian Star at a big looking 25/1. He has proved he is capable of this mark and if he get an easy lead he may well be hard to pass. He is a up and down sort but that is built into the price at its worth a small bet.

I’m already on Hot Streak for value here but I get the feeling that something could run a big race at a huge price here. Going through the field I’m beginning to think Tropics may well be the one that can get involved. He ran a eye-catching race last time out at Ascot and has form on softer ground. He could well get into the places here at a huge 66/1.

Ascot 1:55

Racy has been improving lately and I thought he ran a great race at Ascot until fading over 6 Furlongs, the drop back in trip here should suit and I’ll take another shot on him at a decent looking 20/1.

Sandown 2:05

Kingsgate Native has all the advantages here. On his day he is only beaten in these conditions by top class horses like Sole Power and Hot Streak. His 2nd in the Palace House was proof that he still operates near the top of his form and I can’t see the 7/1 at all. He is of course able to throw in plenty of howlers but I think the way he is being trained this year with very few runs could the key.

Sandown 3:50

I think the Fugue is too short here, and as I don’t really fancy the next 2 in the betting at all Kingston Hill or Night of Thunder, the value here lies with Verrazano War Command and Mukhadram. My gut feeling in that Mukhadram is the most undervalued of these and he may well be extremely difficult to knock out of the first 3 here making his odds of 16/1 looks the best value of the lot. He is near top class over this trip and if the Fugue isn’t at her best he may well be the most likely to capitalize.

Haydock 3:30

Open Eagle sticks out for me here of a workable mark judging by his good 3rd in the November Handicap at the end of last year off a 4lbs higher mark. He is more than likely been readied for this race and the fact the its turned up similar soft ground has to be an advantage. There looks to be a lot of Horses with no chance in this and he may well have a great chance of placing at least. 20/1 looks value with bet365

3:50 Newcastle Saturday

I picked Waterclock in the Ascot Stakes and he travelled well most of the way before running out of steam and getting into trouble a couple of furlongs out. He was then eased off but I feel that this trip here will be more in his line and he may well be about to get back into form. His 2nd in the Cesarewitch last year still read really well in the context of this race and the fact he is only 2lbs higher. 50/1 looks great value. I’m also going to have a small saver on Buthelezi as he is on a decent mark and could well be a stayer on the flat judging by his decent NH form.

4:50 Worcester

My Favourite horse Barizan is running today and although he is probably too high in mark and over a trip a bit longer than ideal, he is at least a stone better on this ground than his excellent 2nd in a much better race last month. That performance on soft was about as good as he has run for a long time, and if he is still in form which isn’t a given, he can get involved here with 8lbs more.

Ascot 3:05

Longer Distance handicap’s aren’t really by bag at all, but one thing about Ascot is Course Form is everything and in an effort to find something interesting here at a decent price I came across Eshtiaal. He was an excellent fast finishes 3rd in an identical race to this over this course and distance last year , and although he hasn’t shown anything since in 2 runs, you’d have to think today would have been the plan. His reappearance was on soft ground and todays conditions will be far more in his favour. He is on the same mark as that good run last year ,and 33/1 looks a very decent margin on his chances here.

Ascot 4:25

Medicean Man is in the form of his life this year and that can be dangerous to ignore with sprinters. He was exceptional this year in Meydan and carried that forward to a career best 4th on Tuesday in the Kings Stand. I think that race is a big step up from this one and 25/1 is a bit of an insult. He also has plenty of very good course form. He has also run well when turned around quickly in the past and that’s too may positives to ignore

Ascot 5:00

I get the feeling the Racy is on the way back to some form and ran well last time out on probably unsuitable soft ground in a very good race. He has excellent Ascot Good-Firm form 2nd behind Masamah last year and although he is inconsistent he is a big enough price to make the risk worth taking at 50/1. Zero Money is similar in that he has good form at the course and seeing that I cant take my eyes of the eye watering 125/1, I’ll have to have a punt on that as well. It does take some creative thinking to give him even a tiny chance but the course form and decent draw give him that.

Ascot 3:45

This is a strange race with questions about everything so in looking for a value angle, I’m going again with course form. Ektihaam sluiced up in a C&d race last year on the same ground and although he has done literally nothing since, in this field I’m hoping for a return to form which will put him right here with a decent chance. He was poor on his reappearance but should be fitter today and 16/1 looks worth chancing.

1 Point win 16/1 Various
